Annan Justice of the Peace Court

Annan Justice of the Peace Court

Annan Justice of the Peace Court was a local Magistrates court in the Dumfries & Galloway region, which sat in Annan’s Council buildings, on the High Street in Annan.  It was closed on 14 November 2013 with Scottish Driving Law fighting the final case ever to be heard there.  The closure was covered in local press on the day that the court was closed.

The rest of the information on this page is therefore no longer relevant.

Procedures at Annan JP Court

The court sat twice a month, on a Thursday.  For any residual administrative issues, to phone Annan Justice of the Peace Court, phone the main Scottish Court Service help desk in Dumfries on 01387 262 334. The court at Dumfries is extremely busy, often dealing with 70 cases or more in a day. All cases at Annan Justice of the Peace Court were scheduled to start at 10 am. The order that cases are called depended there, as in all Scottish courts,  on the Procurator Fiscal. In such a busy court, it was inevitable that most people called to appear had to wait to have their cases called. Waiting room facilities were provided and there was a small public gallery in the court.
