Dumfries Sheriff Court is located in the Sheriff Court House, in Buccleuch Street, Dumfries. The court sits in either Courtroom 1 or Courtroom 2. There is a staffed reception desk on the left hand side of the entrance hall. Ask there to find out where your case will be heard.
The court sits on weekdays, from 10 am until 4 pm, taking an hour for lunch at 1pm. Where a case calls in court for the first time, the date given will normally fall on a Tuesday.

To contact Dumfries Sheriff Court, phone the Scottish Court Service help desk on 01387 262 334. The court is very busy, often dealing with 30 cases or more in a day. Cases at Dumfries Sheriff Court are scheduled to start at 10 am, or 2pm for hearings called “Intermediate Diets”. With so many cases scheduled for 10 am, is inevitable that most people will have to wait in court until it’s their turn. The order that cases are called depends on the Procurator Fiscal (the prosecutor). Waiting room facilities are provided and there is a public seating area in the court.
On arrival at Dumfries Sheriff Court for your hearing, you should report to the desk on the ground floor. Give your name and the name of your solicitor. You will be directed to one of the two court rooms which hears Sheriff Court cases. You will be asked to take a seat at the back of the court until your case calls.
The Court is situated in Dumfries town centre. It is 10 minutes walk from Dumfries train station (located on Lovers Walk) and 5 minutes walk from the main bus terminal on the Whitesands. Local car hire is available. There is free local parking, which uses a parking disc system. Parking discs are available from local newsagents and shops (on Buccleuch Street). Public parking can be found on Buccleuch Street, on Castle Street and on the Whitesands, where there is also private parking.
